Future By Design Biography

I started Future By Design an artist in 1996 – 2001 initially. The aim was to control my own music, write whatever I wanted to, and not be tied to a record label so that I didn’t become a puppet under someone else’s control.

The music, generally instrumentals, is generally about evoking a mood, generally uplifting, sometimes chilled, but with some darker tracks particularly in the the style of drum ‘n’ bass. I cover other styles such as Soul, Jazz, House and Garage. The first album “Long Journey Home” (1998) included several styles of music, and ended up sounding a bit like a strange compilation album, I would describe it as eclectic.

It was a period of my life when I was spiritually finding myself and making a lot of mistakes through hanging with the wrong kind of people. It’s only when I lost contact with some people suddenly, that I began to realise the narcissism and insincerity of people who I called friends and family.

The Future By Design project has been intermittent but still rolls on as I occasionally produce secular music. Basically anything that I write that doesn’t fit directly into a spiritual theme falls in to this pseudonym.

The concept behind with Future By Design is to use your imagination and let the music take you to a different place. Perhaps it is a reflection of my inner thoughts, at times wanting to escape from the mindset or place I am, to the mindset and place where I want to be. Yes, thinking back, this music is about escapism, trying to find a better place this crazy world, escaping haters, slanderers and the cruel.

Some people write music to be famous, to project an image, they want the glamour and money. I write music firstly as a positive creative outlet, especially when I have felt so much negativity bombarding me, and also, to find and even protect that special place inside of me that has hope for the future.
